Camping#3 Sat.-Mon.

We left Saturday morning, camper in tow. Found some really cheap gas in East Bend, for $3.66 per gallon, headed for Boone NC. After the kids enjoyed the play last year in Cherokee so much, K and I decided to try go see the "Horn in the West" this year. The photo above was made at Julien Price Park, on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The weather was cooler there, we only had one thunder storm.

We visited Linville Falls and Linville Caverns, they were both very beautiful. Two places that I have heard about all my life and have never been there until now. My cousin Connie used to talk about going to Linville all the time, now I know why she liked it so good it was beautiful and much cooler! This is my favorite photo from the caverns, it reminds me of Dave Jones from Pirates of the C. The person in the photo was our tour guide he promised that if water dropped on you while you were there that your hair would look like his, I am still waiting for my hair to curl up, I think he lied! It was also very cool down in the caverns. The boys were getting cold by the time our tour was over but I thought it was very pleasant!

There was a gem mine at the end of the drive way to the camp ground so we stopped in there for some sleuthing. I think I could sit there and do that all day long. It was much more enjoyable than the one we went to last year, not as commercialized.

We stayed at Flintlock Campground, it was nice, nice enough that we would probably stay there again if we decide to go back to Boone. We were once again really close to the bath house. There was a creek running threw the camp, the boys really enjoyed playing in it. They got to take their bikes and they were able to ride all around the campground and I could see them where ever they were. That was nice for me! There was also a game room with a pool table that they all took an immediate liking too! I also could see right in the front door from the front of our camper!

We cooked almost everything in the dutch oven this time, I forgot my frying pan, Kenny cooked cinnamon rolls and sausage links the first morning and croissants and sausage links the next. he is getting much better with his dutch oven cooking. I don't think I could have done the bread any better in the oven at home! I did do one camp recipe that I found on the Internet, the boys all liked it but it was not very filling. You mix one mac and cheese kit, one can of beef and mushroom soup, one can of tomato's (I used Italian seasoned tomato's) and you can add hot dogs or sausage. It was pretty tasty, but just not enough for the five of us.
This is the bulk of our adventure, we did visit one other establishment, that I will tell you about the next time.
