New Camera Lens

Dove in the pine tress behind the house.

I finally decided what lens I wanted for my Nikon Camera. I had been wanting one for sometime, and in fact was the whole reason for purchasing the Nikon. If I had been able to buy a lens for my Samsung NX100 at a reasonable price, I would have continued to use it.

These are some of the first photos that I made with the new 55-300mm lens. I am still working on holding the camera still, because the longer lens makes it harder to hold.

As always to see the photos larger, you can just click on the photo you want to enlarge.
Hope you enjoy!

"Waco" plan from South Carolina, always something flying over head at our house.

Wild Turkey

I heard this strange sound the other day, so I immediately went to look out the window to see if my chicks were OK. They seemed fine, as I was walking past another window I saw a strange large object in the drive way. This is what I saw. It was on the cement when I first saw it, but by the time I ran back to the other end of the house to get the gun, I mean camera, it had moved further from the house. This place never ceases to amaze me and all its natural beauty.

Manic Monday!

Mondays are normally filled with lots of stress. From getting caught up from the weekend with housework stuff to homework and cub scouts.
Yesterday was no different from what I have come to expect from a Monday. But I was lucky enough to see something that brought a little smile to my face. As I was stopped at a stop sign there was a flock of robins landed all around me. On both sides of the car. I had been hoping for some snow, but after seeing the robins, I think I am ready for spring.

A Murder at the Captain's Quarters

Last week while we were at the beach, early one morning we were out by the pool and this big bird flew up and sat on the showers beside the pool.

B is yelling look at that hawk. At that point it was about 40 feet from us. It had something in its talons.
All of a sudden it flies toward us! It landed on top of a fake palm tree, feathers going everywhere. Now it was only about 10 or 12 feet from B and I. I just happened to have my camera in my hand, so I started snapping photos. I got several shots all similar to this one. It had a pigeon in it's talons, it was on the other side of the palm tree so you can not see it in any of my photos. We later found more blood and feathers by one of the hot tubs!
I was just so excited to be this close to this beautiful bird, and feeling so lucky to get these photos. Yeah, me!...and thanks to my really cool HP camera!

The Last Day of my Richard Petty Year...

A welcome gift from God for the last few days is the change in the weather. It has been cool, sunny and breezy here, although today in the forecast they are calling for some rain. That's OK we need that more than we need the glorious fall like weather. I have tryed to get a photo of the humming bird at my window. He sits on top of the feeder with his feathers all puffed up, looking in like, "you need to put some food in this feeder!"

I don't have much planned on this auspicious day, just a walk at the park, some house work that I didn't do yesterday and some stressing over homework this afternoon.

This past year has not been really different from the other 42. I have enjoyed watching B mature so, much. I can't believe my child is a good 3 or 4 inches taller than I. I guess my biggest achievements for this past year are camping, going to summer camp for a week and my new found love of Nordic walking. I guess those are good things, since they are all healthy and family oriented, right?

Off to work on some chicken stew for supper. Yum yum!

Baby Birds

Here is a photo of the baby birds that are living in my fern, on the front porch. They are looking much better even since Sunday morning. They were all pink and wrinkly then. I think their names should be Lucky, Lucker, and Luckest. Seeing as when they were still eggs they fell out of the nest after the fern has sat out in the rain ALL day.
