Beach November 2013 part 2

This is the type of rudder the USS NC would have had, this particular one was from another ship.

Wilmington NC

Jake doing the Titanic thing, I haven't told him he was at the back of the ship, instead of the front. Ssssssssssssssssh!

Some stretcher 5' x 8' ?

44 mm guns

Now there is a mission statement you would not see in this day and time.

Jake in the sick bay.

Good thing dad had that healing water. We hope he will make a full recovery.

A sign on the deck of the ship said there were alligators living in the area, we were wondering if the long trail with bumps beside it was an alligator track....glad that ship was 9 levels high!
My Mom and Dad told me about sending dimes to the campaign to bring the USS North Carolina. They both remember taking their dimes to school.

The two things I remember about visiting this ship when I was a child were the large links in the chain and having my picture made standing beside some sort of shell.  Going to have to get mom to dig out the photo to make sure this is the right one.

On the way home from a very fun weekend trip to the beach and a visit to a North Carolina landmark.

Beach November 2013

We went to the beach over the long weekend (kids were out of school on Friday). The weather was not the best but not the worst. It could have been colder and it could have been raining instead of over cast.  That is why we always stay at the Captain's Quarters at Myrtle Beach, SC. A family resort with indoor pools and lazy river, a bowling ally and restaurant.

Early on Saturday morning (11-2-13) we started seeing horses on the beach. Turns out this was some sort of charity ride and the organizers were expecting up to 1,100 riders and their horses.

Sea Gulls in the surf,  loving my new camera.

Jacob and his Lindsey, she was at the beach with her family just a few miles away. She got there first and began to send him  photos of the ocean. So he made this and sent to her.

I made it up before the sun and got to the beach just in time to get some photos. Of course the end of daylight savings time probably helped me to get up early enough!

Arrrrrgh Mate! Me thinks we have hit the doldrums! All weekend long.

Then I had company and we went for a walk on the beach.

I found a beautiful big lettered olive shell, it had a tiny piece of another stuck in it. My husband had to work on it to get it out.

The other treasures I found on the beach.

My special treasures. We decided to make this trip because Ben is a senior this year in high school so we wondered if this might be his last year to go with us.   Time will tell.
